Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face) - Georges Franju

Day 5: Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face) is a French horror film directed by Georges Franju. Franju was a documentary director that wanted to elevate the horror genre with this beautiful movie. Although it was not well reviewed upon its release modern critics have praised it. One of my favorite foreign horror films it is more than its grotesque transplant scenes. At its core is the love a father has for his daughter who was disfigured in a terrible accident. Filled with quilt the father enlists his assistant to lure girls for his experiments that would restore his daughters beauty. The daughter is locked away in a house outside of Paris wearing a featureless mask. She longs for the affection of her fiance who was told she died in the accident. As suspicions arise the doctors home becomes the focus of an investigation which leads to a poetic ending. Eyes Without A Face is a rare horror movie that is sensitive and terrifying. Little bit of trivia the mask worn by the actress inspired the look for Michael Myers. Billy Idol's hit Eyes Without A Face was also inspired by the film. #eyeswithoutaface #lesyeuxsansvisage #georgesfranju #horror #horrorfilm #Frenchcinema #frenchmovie
