Day 9: The Omen directed by Richard Donner

Day 9: The Omen directed by Richard Donner. A mother gives birth to a stillborn child. The husband is presented with an opportunity for a replacement when a healthy baby boy lost his mother. No one would know except the father and few others. The deceit would his wife heartache and give an orphaned baby a life of privilege. Damien would become heir to the Thorn wealth and with it political power. Robert and Katherine Thorn have become the parents of an evil biblical prophecy. He is the Antichrist. Released in 1976 The Omen was a huge success. It starred Gregory Peck and Lee Remmick as the unknowing parents. It also featured Billie Whitelaw, David Warner and Harvey Stephens as Damien. It would be the second studio horror movie to come out in the 70's with religious themes. The Omen utilizes the final chapter of Revelations to tell the story of the rise of the Antichrist and what havoc he would bring to humanity. It asks it's audience if they believed what lengths they would go to save their loved ones and perhaps the world. Robert Thorn must make decisions that lead to tragedy for his family. Who would kill a little boy they've raised with unconditional love knowing they would destroy humanity? Richard Donner created a legitimate horror movie with Hollywood stars and a supporting cast of established British actors. This proved that horror could be done by big studios using smaller budgets while still remaining polished enough for audiences. The Omen was scored by Jerry Goldsmith which won him an Academy Award for Ave Satani. This score is considered to be one of the finest in the horror genre. There were several sequels done after the success of the Omen but none have matched the balance of horror and drama with such finesse as the original. #theomen #richarddonner #gregorypeck #leeremmick #damien #itsallforyou #horror #horrormovie #classichorror #scary
