Day 9 Bonus: Crimson Peak directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

Gothic horror returns in this lush production starring Mia Wasikowska, Tim Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain. Edith (Mia) lost her mother at a young age. One night not soon after her funeral Edith is warned by her mother's ghost, a warning that foreshadows her future home. Many years later Edith is a young woman looking to have her novel published. She has a chance encounter with Thomas Sharpe (Tom) who is meeting with her father to invest in his invention. The meeting is unsuccessful but Tom has other plans for Edith. One evening while she is alone Tom arrives at Edith's home and persuades her to attend a ball. There she meets Tom's sister Lucille who was commanding an audience with her piano playing. It is apparent to Edith's father and Dr. McMichael (Charlie Hunman) that Edith is quite taken by Tom. It isn't long before suspicions arise on Tom and Lucille's intentions. Edith's father confronts them with evidence he obtained from a private investigator and pays them off to leave back to England.Edith and Tom reunite the next morning only to discover that her father has been killed. Edith and Tom marry soon after and move to his home in England. The house is nicknamed Crimson Peak due to the red clay that seeps through. The past comes back to haunt Edith. But it isn't hers that the house is uncovering. Behind doors are ghosts that hold secrets about Tom and LucilleCrimson Peak is not the type of horror modern audiences are accustomed to. It harkens back to the Hammer films of 60's with a bit of Argento's Suspiria and Inferno. The production design and costumes are impeccable. The house itself is a character with many corridors, levels and an iron elevator leading to a basement with vats filled of red liquid. It is a stunning movie which I saw in IMAX at the historic Chinese Theater. Crimson Peak might not please hardcore horror fans but it is worth the watch for the scenery alone.#crimsonpeak #guillermodeltoro #miawasikowska #tomhiddleston#jessicachastain #charliehunman#horrormovie #horror #gothichorror #Halloween #scary #gothic
