Day 15 Bonus: Black Christmas (1974) directed by Bob Clark
Film director Bob Clark is well known for his holiday classic A Christmas Carol and his raunchy comedy Porky's. In 1974 Clark directed a horror movie that took place on a college campus where a sorority has been receiving obscene phone calls. The movie is set during the bitterly cold holiday season. Originally titled Black Christmas it was changed in the US to not be confused with the popular Blacksploitation films of the time. The movie did not fare well in the US market but it would find an audience decades later. Predating Halloween it incorporated many elements that have become part of the horror genre. An isolated setting, anonymous phone calls, POV shots from the killer, unknown reasons for the murders, red herrings and a terrifying musical score. The cast includes several young up and coming actors as well as some established stars. The movie didn't rely heavily on gore instead focusing on atmosphere.
Black Christmas was remade in 2006 but it failed to match the original in every way. Nothing is more terrifying than getting an obscene phone call in an empty house only to find out that... well watch it. Thank you Bob Clark for giving us a horror classic. One which will be viewed during Halloween and Christmas.#bobclark
